Laminate wood flooring was installed in our kitchen. In my previous home improvement, video. That's being number six, I spoke the length about the laminate flooring in our new kitchen. Now, just to refresh your memory, my wife and I have just invested in a new open plan, kitchen diner. We did away with the old gang style kitchen that was frankly falling apart, that we did have as in brought down a wall. We've got an open plan and that involved ripping up all the old flooring to put down something else in the flooring that we did.
Joe's came from Wix, it was the Madeira light, hickory wood, laminate flooring and I'll show you an example of it in just a moment, but in this video, I just want to talk to you in the installation process. Now I didn't actually solve that. The flooring myself we did have builders who did that on our behalf, but I am reasonably DIY literate, I'm not a novice at these things and, having seen what they did, I think I probably would have been capable of doing the majority, if not all of it.
It did strike me as quite you know, straightforward process and when the guys started putting the floor and then Hanif and most of it was put down by one individual, it did seem to go down very quickly. So how did you actually saw the flooring? Well, obviously, first of all, you have to put a Leon flooring up, and in our case, that was a horrible old lino flooring in the old kitchen. It was well past its best and carpet in the dining area and also covered in our hallway. Now, when we pulled all that up, we discovered a few little surprises.
Some of the kitchen floors were concrete. Some of it was word and meal so on earth, an old half, so the flooring was uneven and made of different materials, and this had an impact on the kind of underlay that we could use. We were going to use a simple folk Mundell, you know, probably about five millimeters thick white roll. That comes out that you lay across the floor. Our builders took one look at what we had and said that was not going to be up to the job. They suggested that we use a fiberboard under later.
I've got an example of it here, and all the products are going to show you they are all from Wix. So this is the fiberboard under a day, as you can see, you know quite thin and very flexible. You see that so this very simply just gets laid out on the floor. Whatever that wood laminate flooring goes, that has to go first, there's no pictures or fittings or anything with it. You literally just slide on the floor. Next up. You then actually put down the flooring itself, which is yeah.
